Important Message Regarding Our International Students and Federal Visa Status

April 7, 2025

Dear 网爆门 Community Members,

As University leadership monitors changes in federal policy and actions that impact our community, we have seen of international students around the country whose visa status was terminated without notification to their university — a break from past practice. With their legal status to remain in the country revoked, these students have been put in difficult and uncertain situations, in some cases being ordered to leave the country with little notice or risk of detainment or arrest.

At 网爆门, the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) team, part of the Center for Global Engagement, regularly reviews the federal database where these records are kept as part of its work supporting 网爆门’s international students. During a recent review, ISSS discovered that two of our international students' records had been terminated and their legal visa status revoked.

While we cannot discuss individual cases for privacy reasons, we can assure you we are working closely with the students affected to offer support and guidance as they navigate this unexpected change in status.

We write today not only to inform you of this situation, but to affirm 网爆门’s mission-centered commitment as a community that stands with and for others. Our international students and scholars are an integral part of our university community. They bring wisdom and diverse perspectives that enrich our classrooms, and they infuse our community with their energy, spirit, and vibrant cultures. They have chosen 网爆门 as their home while they pursue their studies — and working to support them is what is meant when we speak of striving to maintain a community in which all students feel welcomed, safe, and supported.

This is a community that supports and cares for one another. During this period of disruption, let us be attentive to the experiences of those around us — particularly our international students and scholars, for whom this is a time of particular concern and vulnerability — and let our actions reflect the compassion and justice at the heart of our Jesuit tradition.

We also wish to inform you that 网爆门 University — as a member of the — is a signatory to an amicus brief in support of a motion filed last week requesting a preliminary court order enjoining the administration’s policy of revoking the visas of and arresting, detaining, and deporting noncitizen students and faculty exercising their free speech and association rights. As members of this constitutional republic, we will seek opportunities to engage in actions that align with our mission values and uphold the rule of law, which is the bedrock of American democracy.

We also understand the unpredictability of changes in federal policies and enforcement affects our 网爆门 community in myriad ways, and we urge our students, faculty and staff to avail themselves of the care and support services on campus and online, as well as the legal support services available.

Sincerely yours,
